Thomas Hoffmann

Prof. Dr. Thomas Hoffmann is head of department at the Karlsruhe Studienseminar and trains secondary school teacher trainees in geography. He is also an honorary professor of education for sustainable development at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and a lecturer in geography didactics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He also teaches geography, history, politics and economics at Windeck-Gymnasium in Bühl and undertakes special tasks for the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs and the Ministry of the Environment in Baden-Württemberg, such as the development of the education plan or the development of teaching materials. His academic interests lie in global challenges and their didactic and methodological implementation in the classroom. He therefore focuses on education for sustainable development and the solution-orientated teaching approach he has developed. He has put these ideas up for discussion in numerous articles on geography didactics and incorporated them into geography textbooks. Thomas Hoffmann is a founding member of the ESD Expert Net, an intercultural ESD think tank, and headed its working group on the development of learning and teaching materials. In addition, he has many co-operations with partners in India, Mexico and Japan.
